Žganci
Žganci are made from buckwheat flour, which is cooked and then mixed into small pieces. They are served with ocvirki - pork cracklings. Žganci can be used as a side dish to mushroom soup, cabbage or chicken stew. However, the traditional žganci are eaten as a main dish, served with kislo mleko. Kislo mleko, meaning sour milk, is a traditional Slovenian dairy product. It is a fermented milk that has a slightly tangy taste and creamy texture.

Žganci with kislo mleko are really served in the majority of restaurants, but can be ordered in any cottage in the Slovenian mauntains. If you are not up to hiking we recommend you visit Štrud’l in Bohinjska Bistrica. You can also try other traditional dishes over there.
